January 17th, 2025, is a key moment for my Hunting Trophies (Import Prohibition) Bill, as it had its second reading in Parliament. This bill seeks to ban the import of hunting trophies into Great Britain, protecting endangered species from further exploitation.
This initiative has been a long time coming, and I’m committed to ensuring that our laws reflect the values of those who want to see a world where wildlife is conserved, not hunted for trophies. I’ve worked closely with animal welfare organisations, including the Humane Society International UK, whose support has been invaluable.
The bill is not just about restricting imports, it’s about sending a clear message, we stand with the animals, and we will not allow our country to be a market for trophies from endangered species.
While Private Members' Bills face challenges in getting through Parliament, I am hopeful that we can push this bill over the line. Let’s make our voice heard for those who cannot speak for themselves. And let's pave the way for future generations.
Together, we can ensure that ethical wildlife conservation becomes the norm.
